Basenji Puppy
If you would like to purchase a Basenji Puppy, please, make sure this is the dog you really want and can handle properly. Because Basenjis are very active, they require incessant exercise and interaction, and they do not like it when there is no one around to play with them. The Basenji dog is only a good companion when he is fully satisfied with life. Improperly socialized or bored dogs can be a sheer trouble to you and your family.
There are lots of breeders, who sell their Basenji Puppies to those looking for a family companion or who would like to launch his or her own breeding program. It takes quite a bit of experience to raise and bring up a dog, so that it fully lives up to the breed standard. If you want a purebred Basenji, good enough to win positions at dog shows, you should look for a responsible and professional breeder.
Although Basenji dogs are small and seemingly easy to care for, they are not for everyone. These dogs hate boredom and must be involved in a rigorous activity nearly all the time. They are very watchful and protective, and hence they may not get along with other pets. More often than not, these dogs display dissatisfaction with the presence of other dogs, but they are relatively good with other Basenjis. Basenji Puppies are very cute and vivacious, and they must be trained from early on. Because Basenjis are indoor companions, housebreaking is an absolute must. These dogs like to chew on things, so you must buy lots of toys for your puppy unless you want him to chew on your shoes, or other household items.
Basenjis are small dogs, measuring 15-17 inches high at the shoulder. They possess a robust body built, and despite their compact dimensions, they are very energetic and muscular. They have a smooth coat that comes in black-and-tan, black-and-brindle, and copper red, with white on the chest, legs and tip of the tail. Many dogs have a white facial blaze. Basenjis have erectile and sharpened ears, almond-shaped eyes and a curved tail. These little dogs are quite long-lived, their life span averaging 12-14 years. Although Basenjis are healthier than many other dog breeds, Basenji Puppies must be screened for possible genetic abnormalities in due time.
