This breed is very ancient; its origin is associated with legends and myths. There is evidence that these dogs were the favorites of Pharaohs and the remains of mummified dogs were found in ancient tombs. The hallmark of the breed is inability to bark.

This breed was recognized only in 1943 and became very popular as a family pet and show dogs. The main function of the breed is lure coursing; it is excellent in chasing the prey by sight.
