When considering a pet for sale, search or dogs from reputable kennels and request a picture of the sire.
Purebred dogs from breeders reach up to $800, dogs from champion bloodlines reach $1000. In stores you can pay more for a companion dog, but will have no health guarantee. Dogs from shops are difficult to train and socialize; they often become abandoned to rescue organizations.

Reputable breeders sell their dogs on written contract without charging extra for it. A contract protects the buyer and you have a right to return the puppy with defects. Some reputable breeders insist on returning the dog to them if the owner has no opportunity to keep it.
